Opera San Luis Obispo’s Show Boat opens on May 10.
Check out Part 1, as we now have an update from Arts Marketer Judith Carleson…

The Cast & Crew

It’s always great fun to get find interesting information about the performers. Now, we really have a show!

Our Magnolia: Kristin Towers-Rowles is singing the role that her grandmother Kathryn Grayson sang in the 1951 MGM movie;

Kristin Towers-Rowles will be playing the part of Magnolia.

Our Joe: Dan Tullis performs “Ol’ Man River” and has sung this role all over the world; even his own children have been on stage with him;

The Local Talent: Many of them are veterans of the stage and well-known to us;

The Dancers: Drew Silvaggio choreographs the Civic Ballet dancers – these folks did a bang up job on last year’s Carmen;

Our Director: Erik Austin is a very talented director and well-known to locals for his outstanding productions that have spark and creativity oozing out of them…I’m curious to see how he will stage direct this show!

Our Conductor: You can’t have a musical without the music! Brian Asher Alhadeff is our very young and very talented conductor, whom musician friends of mine say is a great conductor.

Dan Tullis

Singing the part of Joe is Dan Tullis.

Our Concermaster: Just learned that one of my favorite musicians, Brynn Albanese of Café Musique, will be the concertmaster! If you have never heard this group, do.  She is a gifted violinist and I love the idea that she will be in the pit.  She can make that thing sing!

Crunch Time

So now is the crazy time for all marketers.  We have placed all the advertisements, printed the postcards, hung up the posters, spoken at community events, and emailed like crazy.  It gives us anxiety attacks.  But maybe that‘s what we love about it.  Marketing an arts event is a “rush” as we used to say.  I guess that’s why after nearly 17 years at it, I’m doing it again.

Don’t Miss Out!

Tickets are now available on the Performing Arts Center website.

And you can learn all about the history and origins of Show Boat on the Opera San Luis Obispo website.

Can’t wait to see you when Show Boat sails into town!
